Why we founded the company
AI should save time, not waste it. As a European AI startup, we believe generative AI should enhance rather than complicate everyday work. That's the principle that led us to build Buildgrid in Helsinki — a platform that connects your existing knowledge sources with modern AI and then acts on them, with the data privacy standards European companies expect.
Our story
How it started
Buildgrid was established in Helsinki by Fredrik, Timo, and Jani — three Nordic tech entrepreneurs with a shared passion for practical technology solutions. Before Buildgrid, they successfully built and exited NordSafety, which was acquired by Quentic, a European workplace SaaS platform focused on safety and compliance. They've since served as advisors and investors across multiple SaaS ventures, bringing deep experience in building enterprise software from Finland to the world.
The spark
Fredrik's exploration of RAG-based solutions for Finnish construction regulations sparked the concept. The experiment demonstrated how immediate access to reliable information could be transformative for an entire industry. Timo and Jani joined to refine the problem and develop the technology into a platform. What began as document search has since grown into three products: agents that act on the knowledge, an integration layer under them, and a ready-made operations desk on top.
